All the Reasons Why the Huawei P20 Pro Is Our New Dream Camera Phone

The battle for the best smartphone camera may have just met its end

The creators call it a renaissance in photography. The tech reviews conclude that it without a doubt one-ups its competitors. Everyday users are simply calling it one of the best smartphone cameras of all time.

The future of technology in smartphone photography is here and it takes a handheld form in the Huawei P20 Pro. The latest release from Huawei combines all the amazing assets of the previous models in the P series, making them even better while still incorporating new and exciting features.

What makes the Huawei P20 Pro the superior camera phone? Here, we break it down for you.

You can enjoy hours of streaming audio and video, tinkering with social media and taking photos and video without having to worry about draining your battery.

Finally, a phone that allows you to do it all…all day long. To start, the Huawei P20 Pro comes with an impressive 4,000mAh battery which means battery life can last you a day and a half up to two days before it completely runs out of juice. The charging time is only at one hour and 24 minutes, too.

And just how powerful is the P20 Pro battery? The guys at Tech Radar conducted a video playback test to find out. The team streamed a 90-minute long video and played this at maximum brightness and found that this burned through only 9% of the P20 Pro’s battery life. You can leave that power bank at home now.

It’s the only smartphone with a built-in Leica triple lens camera.

For Huawei, this is where “aesthetic vision meets an advanced camera system that shines a light on intelligent photography.” The P20 Pro is, in many ways, the dream camera phone for the professional photographer. It has a 40-megapixel RGB sensor, an 8-megapixel telephoto sensor and a 20-megapixel monochrome sensor (for enhanced low-light photography). It also comes with an impressive aperture mode, which can blur or focus the background of the image, ultimately achieving the DSLR bokeh effect. Lastly, it boasts 1x, 3x and 5x hybrid zoom options.

“This is going to be a game-changer,” professional photographer Matt Writtle told The Evening Standard. “Anyone can do a portrait image in this setting and it would look similar to what a professional photographer can do. Though, that is slightly frightening for me. I was blown away by the quality of the lens and the images. The clarity is exceptional and the reproduction is breath-taking.”

It’s IP67 dust and water resistant.

The P20 Pro can withstand depths of up to 1 meter and for up to 30 minutes. Those accidental dips in the pool, at the beach or anywhere else on vacation don’t stand a chance, making this the ultimate smartphone to take with you everywhere.

No light? No problem. The P20 Pro blows its competitors out of the water with its low light capabilities.

For one, the P20 Pro’s Portrait Lighting feature lets users take ideal portraits with ease. The phone’s AI-driven 3D facial modeling technology enables the portrait mode’s self-adjusting lighting feature, so users get flattering selfies every time and need not worry about finding the light themselves. A fun little bonus? It’s the only phone that comes with studio-quality lighting effects.

The P20 Pro’s night mode also grants users ISO 102,400 for low-light shooting, which means photos aren’t pixelated, noise is kept to a minimum and resolution is still in high-definition.

Let’s not forget about the high-resolution video quality.

The P20 Pro’s video mode easily competes with dedicated video recording equipment with its 4K resolution. A stabilization accessory may be needed, however, in order to achieve the look of professional-grade footage.

All the best photography features are wrapped in a sleek, lightweight design.

The P20 Pro is a sturdy dual-glass 7.65mm-thick smartphone and comes with an all-new full-view display. Huawei says the 6.1-inch OLED screen “delivers a superior color gamut for [their] best screen to date.” The P20 Pro is currently available in three colors: Twilight, Midnight Blue and Black.
