Finally, the beep™ card—the all-in-one commuter card in the metro—is getting more mileage, so to speak. According to a statement by AF Payments, Inc., the company who helped launch the stored value card system, commuters can now use the card to pay for point-to-point (P2P) bus rides.

With these new conveniences, AF Payments said they will add more in the coming months. The beep™ card is starting to make the commute in Manila more fun. Here are some ways to make the most out of this stored value smart card.

Cross the city in comfort

If you’re not in a rush and prefer the comfort of an air-conditioned bus instead of the MRT, the beep™ card can be used to pay for your fare on P2P buses. These buses travel back and forth between their specific pick-up and drop-off points without making any stops along the way. The buses also happen to be quite roomy and comfortable, making the stress of commuting long distances in the metro a thing of the past.

The P2P routes:

Trinoma – Glorietta 5 (P55)

SM North EDSA – SM Megamall (P40)

Alabang Town Center – Greenbelt (P70)

Robinsons Galleria – Park Square (P30)

Reload every payday

The beep™ card helps commuters avoid long ticket lines and the inconvenience of digging for change by providing a cashless option to pay for rides. Like a prepaid cell card, it only works if it has load. So every payday or whenever you get your allowance, reload the beep™ card with an extra P50 or P100 so it always has balance. The card can be reloaded at any MRT-3/LRT-1/LRT-2 station, as well as at P2P bus stops. If times are hard, you can reload for as low as P13 at select Bayad Centers, Tambunting, Villarica and SM Billing Payment counters.

Tap tap away

You don’t have to always bring out the beep™ card from your wallet when you’re going to use it. The ticket machine will be able to detect the card even if it’s slightly covered when you tap it against the card reader. However, it won’t work if you put it inside a bulky wallet. Buy a separate card holder for the beep™ card and other important plastic so they’re easily accessible and there’s less chance of misplacing them.

Pro tip: Wear the beep™ cards on lanyards for easy tapping
