A Guide to the H&M x Erdem Collection

All the looks you’ll want to get your hands on

When fast fashion meets high fashion: Swedish retail giant H&M is back at it with yet another exciting designer collaboration. It’s the type of fashion event that shoppers eagerly watch out for—from the moment the designer of the year is revealed to the time the collection hits the shelves; in some cases, shoppers camp through the night outside H&M stores in order to get their hands on the good stuff before they run out.

Following the hyper brights, jewel tones and tiger prints from 2016’s well-received Kenzo collection, this year it's all about the aesthetic of London-based label Erdem. Canadian-Turkish designer Erdem Moralioglu, one of the fashion industry’s celebrated print masters, is bringing romantic florals, pajama dressing and suit separates to fashion fans everywhere, offering a high fashion spinoff at prices that won’t hurt your wallet.

It’s easy to notice the easygoing unisex pieces spread across the collection. The standout cerulean crewneck sweater, for example, was seen on a female model during the runway show and then a male model in the lookbook. “It's about this country house that suddenly gets inhabited by all of these young people — girls wearing bias cut dresses and sneakers and boys wearing tuxedos and T-shirts and this wonderful kind of tension and formality and informality," revealed Erdem Moralioglu. "Boys dressed up as girls, girls dressed up as boys, and [it's] something that felt really inclusive."

Erdem’s New Romantics Hit Manila

Last Thursday, October 26, H&M held the #ERDEMxHM VIP launch party at the SM Makati store, where some of today’s hottest celebrities, fashion influencers, bloggers and fashion magazine editors got a first look at (and first dibs on) the pieces from the collection.

Hosted by team H&M Philippines’ Nikki Verzo and Dan Mejia with music by David Callum, the exclusive pre-launch shopping party served as a preview of the must-haves from the collection, pieces that will likely be sold-out when the collection hits H&M stores: the floral pajama separates, the white ruffled long-sleeved polo and floral suit separates were just some early favorites among Manila’s most fashionable.
