Woman Crush Wednesdays: Amal Alamuddin, A Woman of Intelligence And Integrity

Be ashamed if you don’t know the name, because this girl can kill it in court and on the red carpet

Once upon a time, a woman’s worth was synonymous to her husband’s success. Thankfully, most of the Earth’s population has since grown past that thinking and women like Amal Alamuddin-Clooney have taken their rightful places in some of the most powerful seats the world has to offer. She’s done so much more than tie down George Clooney, who was once one of Hollywood’s most eligible and elusive bachelors.

Even before she was Amal Clooney, she was Amal Alamuddin, an internationally respected human rights lawyer. She was born in Lebanon but grew up in Europe because her family had to flee a war in 1982. She has gone on the record to state how lucky and grateful she is for the opportunity given to her and her family, which is one of the reasons she identifies so strongly with refugees.

She received her English law degree from St. Hugh’s College in Oxford and then went on to pursue her master of laws from New York University. After graduation, she clerked for Sonia Sotomayor, a former federal appeals court judge. Law firm Doughty Street Chambers recruited Amal in 2010 as a barrister, but she later joined its international law team full time. Her roster of clients is impressive in itself, and gives proof to why she is respected the world over.

She represented Ukrainian Prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko to the country of Armenia when it was fighting for recognition of the Armenian Genocide. She has advocated for Yazidi women, a religious minority group from the Middle East, which has been subjected to genocide from ISIS. She also represented WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange in 2011 and then the Greek government in 2014 and 2015 as it tried to reclaim 5th century BC Parthenon sculptures from Britain. Amal also helped free Maldives President Mohamed Nasheed, who was jailed for 13 years.

She met George at a fundraising event in Italy in 2013. The 55-year-old actor has said he knew right away that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with the 39-year-old, whom he married in 2014. Amal wore a hand-embroidered Oscar de la Renta dress to the ceremony, which had beads, crystals and 14 yards of Chantilly lace.

A woman of intelligence, beauty and spectacular fashion sense, Amal Clooney is the epitome of a strong woman. Did we mention she’s currently carrying the twins of one of Hollywood hottest actors? Maybe some people really can have it all.
