Charting: Our Favorite Iron Man Moments on Robert Downey Jr.’s Birthday

53 never looked so good

The 80’s heartthrob. The ‘90s bad boy. For movie lovers today, he’s the cocky but lovable tech genius, Tony Stark. Robert Downey Jr. has given us 10 years of Tony, winning over Marvel Universe fans with his wit, charm and heart on and off-camera. And here, we’re putting together a tribute to the one and only Iron Man on his 53rd birthday.

On this day in 1965, Robert Downey Jr. was born in Manhattan, New York, to a couple who also turned out to be members of the entertainment industry. His father, filmmaker Robert Downey Sr., and mother, actress Elsie Ford, jumpstarted Downey Jr.’s acting career. He appeared in his first movie project, a fantasy film called Pound, at just 5 years old. There was no stopping him since.

As we sit in anticipation for the next installment of the Avengers, where Downey Jr. will be joined by a huge stellar cast, we’re declaring our love for birthday boy Robert Downey Jr., the man without whom Iron Man would never be the same.
